Call for Entries – Announcement of the 14th Continental Essay Competition

We are excited to announce the official opening of the 14th Continental Essay Competition!

This annual contest offers a platform for students, young scholars, and emerging thinkers across the continent to share their insights, propose practical solutions to major regional challenges, and shape the future through writing.

Theme for the 14th Edition

“Advancing Intra-African Trade through Conformity Assessment and Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) — Unlocking the Full Potential of the Cotton-to-Clothing Value Chain under the AfCFTA”

Who Can Apply?

  • Nationality: Open to citizens and residents of participating continental member states.
  • Education: Currently enrolled undergraduate or postgraduate students at a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Age Limit: Applicants must be under 35 years of age at the time of submission.

Submission Guidelines

  1. Word Count: Essays must be between 1,000 and 1,200 words (excluding references and author details).
  2. Format:
    • Font: Century Gothic, Size 12
    • Line Spacing: Double-spaced
    • File Type: PDF or Microsoft Word (.docx)
  3. Language: Submissions are accepted in English or French.
  4. Originality: Entries must be original, unpublished work. AI-generated content or plagiarized submissions will be automatically disqualified.

Key Deadlines

  • Call for Entries Opens: 3rd September 2026
  • Submission Deadline for Participating Countries to ARSO: 23rd April 2027
  • National Level Winners Announced: Check with the Country Socials and Website
  • Continental Winners Announced: July 2027

Prizes & Recognition

Winners will be recognized at both National and Continental levels, with cash prizes and institutional sponsorship:

  • 🥇 1st Place – $1,000 USD + Certificate of Excellence + Travel sponsorship to the 33rd ARSO General Assembly
  • 🥈 2nd Place – $800 USD + Certificate of Excellence
  • 🥉 3rd Place – $500 USD + Certificate of Excellence
  • 🏆 National Winners – Award certificates and national-level prizes managed by participating National Bodies.

How to Submit

  1. Download and complete the Registration Form.
  2. Attach a copy of your student ID card or passport.
  3. Send your essay, registration form, and ID via email to the Country Specific Emails or submit through your local National Standards/Coordinating Body.
