Objective of the Awareness Workshop
The main objective is to inform stakeholders about the benefits of using harmonized standards as tools for improving productivity in terms of quantity, quality, and safety.
Harmonized standards act as trade facilitators between African countries. The session will also foster discussions among participants on challenges related to standard implementation and ways to address them.
Specific Objectives of the Awareness Program
- Understanding the role of harmonized standards and conformity assessment procedures in enhancing the quality and competitiveness of agricultural, leather, and textile products, as well as their contribution to economic growth.
- Enhancing knowledge of AfCFTA’s benefits in strengthening regional value chains and reducing trade barriers.
- Exploring the role of conformity assessment in promoting fair and equitable intra-African trade
- Increasing member states’ engagement and participation in ARSO programs
- Facilitating the sharing of experiences and addressing challenges related to participation in ARSO initiatives.

- Regulatory agencies and relevant government authorities
- National Standards Bodies (NSBs)
- Private sector stakeholders, including small-scale manufacturers, producers, exporters, and importers
- Consumer organizations and associations
- Input suppliers and program implementers
Resources persons, Modes, and Language of the training
The training will be conducted by ARSO staff in virtual mode to enable several participants to benefit from the training.
Interpretation in the 2 official languages will be provided (English and French).
